In this blog post, I’ll guide you through a simple and delicious fish taco recipe that you can easily make at home.

Ingredients

For the Fish:

  • 1 lb white fish fillets (such as cod, tilapia, or halibut)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Toppings:

  • 2 cups shredded red cabbage
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup diced red onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • Lime wedges

For the Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce (optional)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Tortillas:

  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas

Instructions

1. Prepare the Fish

  1. Season the Fish: Cut the fish fillets into 1-inch wide strips. Season them with paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Coat the Fish: Set up a breading station with three bowls. One with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko breadcrumbs. Dredge each fish strip in the flour, dip it in the egg, and then coat it with panko breadcrumbs.
  3. Fry the Fish: Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, fry the fish strips in batches for about 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy. Transfer the fried fish to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

2. Prepare the Sauce

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, sour cream, lime juice, hot sauce (if using), garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Adjust the seasoning to taste.

3. Assemble the Tacos

  1. Warm the Tortillas: Heat the tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds per side or until warmed through. Alternatively, you can wrap them in a damp paper towel and microwave for about 20 seconds.
  2. Assemble: Place a few pieces of fried fish on each tortilla. Top with shredded cabbage, diced tomatoes, red onion, cilantro, and avocado slices. Drizzle with the prepared sauce and squeeze a lime wedge over the top.

4. Serve

  1. Serve the fish tacos immediately with extra lime wedges and hot sauce on the side. Enjoy your fresh and zesty fish tacos!

Tips and Variations

  • Grilled Fish: For a healthier option, you can grill the fish instead of frying. Simply season the fish and grill over medium-high heat for about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Spicy Slaw: Add some heat to your cabbage slaw by mixing in a chopped jalapeño or a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • Tortilla Options: Use corn tortillas for a more traditional taste, or try flour tortillas for a softer texture.

Fish tacos are versatile and can be customized to suit your taste preferences. Whether you like them crispy or grilled, mild or spicy, this recipe is a great starting point for creating your perfect fish tacos. Enjoy this delightful dish with family and friends for a refreshing meal any time of the year.
